When it comes to curling – Colin Griffith, has vision.

Griffith has served as President of both the Peace Curling Association and the Alberta Curling Federation.

Colin initiated in providing the foundation for the Pomeroy Inn & Suites Peace Curling Tour – a curling tour that reaches to all levels of competitive play in the PCA.

The Tour begins its 8th season (starting in October of 2016).

The list of players below, have all played in the tour that Colin nurtured. Although some of their curling resumes have more depth than stated – these are some of their accomplishments post, since participating in our Peace Tour. It truly is impressive.

Geoff Walker – lost a Brier final for Newfoundland, as lead for team Gushue in 2016.  Geoff was a Pomeroy Inn & Suites two time tour champion with Kurt Balderston.  Tom Sallows– 5th man at the last two Briers for Pat Simmons Team Canada rink. Kristie Moore – Represented Alberta as skip, at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Olympic Silver Medallist – 5th for team Cheryl Bernard at 2010 Olympics. Renee Sonnenberg – Olympic Trials competitor (as skip), coach at the Olympics and High Performance coach for Curl Canada. Adam Enright – 5th man, for K-Marts gold medal curling team at the Vancouver Olympics. Daylan Vavrek – U18 International Champion of the World. Graham Powell – Represented Alberta at the Canadian Mixed. Kurt Balderston – Represented Alberta at Canadian Mixed, losing the final.  Also the most winning team in Peace Curling Tour history. Janais DeJong – lost an Alberta Junior Provincial final. Colin Griffith – Masters Champion of Alberta and Senior finalist (second in Alberta). Kayla Skrlik – lost an Alberta Junior Provincal final and won the most recent U-18 Alberta Provincials. Karli Makichuk – Alberta Mixed Double Champion. Sterling Middleton – won the 2016 Youth Olympics Gold Medal – at Lillehammer Norway in the Mixed division. Mark Johnson – Canadian and World Seniors Champion. Evan Asmussen – World Junior Champion, playing third for Brendan Bottcher. Tristan Steinke – Represented Alberta (3rd) at the Junior Canadians this season.

There is no actual measure or exact correlation for the successes above – in relation to the tour. But without question, there is something there.

For a remote area, that is hindered by travel – it’s incredible the mark we have had provincially, nationally and around the world.

Thanks Colin – for your hard work at getting things done, your passion, leadership and most of all – your love for the game.

Geoff Walker competed for a Canadian Championship on TSN - Geoff was a long time second for PCA giant Kurt Balderston, before he graduated from Northern Alberta to play with one of the best skips on the planet Brad Gushue of Newfoundland (2006 Olympic Gold Medallist).

Coaching Training - PCA PDF Print

The Peace Curling Association along with Technical Director, Dan Kleinschroth instructed a Club Coach in November - Slave Lake.  We had 8-participants, completing the Clinic - which is great!

That was followed up with a Competition Coach, in January - Falher Curling Club.  We had an additional 7-participants, completing the training.

It’s important to keep in mind, a minimum of 6-participants is required for a clinic to run. Also note that the Competition Coach variety, includes a Friday evening class for the MED module (Making Ethical Decisions).

Juniors - Road to Canadians PDF Print

Kayla Skrlik, Carley Wolfe, Ashton Skrlik, Morgan Krassman and coach Charles Simoneau – came within one shot of winning the Alberta Junior Girls Provincial Championships, in Wainwright.

Their incredible run, was cut short by what some are calling “the best shot ever” to win a Junior Championships – by Selena Sturmay.

This is the second consecutive season that a PCA girls team has lost the final on last rock – as Janais DeJong did it the previous season.

Both Skrlik and DeJong are eligible to compete in the 2016/2017 championships!

On another note Tristan Steinke – Dawson Creek resident (long time player in PCA and Pomeroy Inn & Suites PCT) who plays on one of the best young teams in the country out of Edmonton – was the men’s champion playing third for Karsten Sturmay (…brother of Selena).

The semi and finals will be broadcasted live on TSN.
