PCT Description 2010-2011

 The Peace Curling Tour consists of the four super leagues as well as the three major cash spiels in the Peace Region.

Super Leagues

  • Total Enerflex - Grande Prairie
  • Sexsmith
  • Alaska Highway

Cash Spiels

  • Investors Group - Grande Prairie
  • Rhyason Contracting/Tidy Trucking – Fort St. John
  • Mile Zero

 

Teams competing in the cash spiels earn points toward the Tour Championship in Sexsmith in January. Two teams from each of the three super leagues will also compete in the championship, one in each division.

Format

  • Each draw shall contain a mixture of competitive, challenge and junior games.
  • Games will be 8 ends with a full extra end to break a tie.
  • Competitive and Challenge divisions will play a true triple knockout
  • Junior/juvenile division will play a two game series.
  • Entry deadline is the Monday at noon prior to the event.

 


Points

  • Competitive and challenge teams earn points towards the Tour Championship as per below
    • 2 points for attending a tour event
    • 4 points for C-event finalists if 8 qualifiers, 2 points for round of 16 if more than 8 qualifiers
    • 6 points for quarterfinalists (or C-event finalists if less than 8 qualifiers)
    • 8 points for semi-finalists
    • 10 points for finalist
    • 12 points for event winner
  • The points of any team entered into a cash spiel that is a mixture of players from different teams will be awarded to the team with the most players present. If the team consists of two players from two different teams, the entered team must declare which of the two teams the points will be awarded to prior to the start of the spiel. Points are non-transferable between divisions and the higher number of points will be considered for the tour championship

 

Tour Championship

 

  • Teams must have played with a minimum of 2 players at a minimum of 2 tour events in order to qualify for the tour championship.  No new players can be introduced at the tour championship.
  • 8 elite, 8 competitive and 4 junior/juvenile teams will compete for the tour championship.
  • The first tie-breaker for qualification for the tour championship is the number of events played. The second tie-breaker is number of first place finishes, number of second place finishes, etc. The third tie-breaker is the head-to-head record. In the case of an unbreakable tie, a game at a neutral location may have to be played.
  • The top 5 competitive and the top 5 challenge teams will qualify for the Tour Championship with the points they earned on the cash spiel circuit.
  • One team for the competitive division and one team for the challenge division will qualify for the tour championship based on their success in their respective super league.   If a super league is unable to name a representative, the next best team in tour standings will fill their spot. In order to qualify for the tour championship, super league teams must have played in 2 tour cash spiels.
  • The Tour Championship will be a double knockout event in which the A winner will play the B winner in the final.
  • There is NO entry fee for the tour championship.

Substitution

 

  • The Friday of each cash spiel allows for open substitution because the spiel will begin Friday during the day and it may be difficult for curlers to adjust their work schedule. The substitute must play front end.
  • Beyond Friday at the cash spiels, a substitute may play however it cannot be a curler that is a member of a team that also played in the event.
  • At the tour championship, if a substitute has not played with the team during qualification, they must play front end.

 

Ruling committee: Any concerns or special ruling requirements in the first year of the tour shall be handled by the ruling committee. This committee shall consist of the chairperson of the bonspiel in questions, PCA staff member Renee Sonnenberg, as well as Rob Griffith and Colin Griffith.
