Challenge Draw - Dawson Creek

Competitive Draw - Dawson Creek

The Pomeroy Inn & Suites Peace Curling Tour –  entered historical territory, with a full event draw on both the SunLife Financial Competitive division and Encana Challenge division.  Not only are there over 128-competitive curlers competing, arguably both divisions boasted one of the top fields in the seven seasons of play.  The Dawson Creek Curling Club, was privy to great curling this weekend!

Kurt Balderston once again showed his dominance in the Pomeroy Inn & Suites Peace Curling Tour with a decisive 5-1 win over Thomas Scoffin of Edmonton.  Scoffin the poster boy for the CCA Youth drive over the past few season – is now the skip of the Alberta Bears University Team (considered one of the best programs in the world, for young curlers).

He plays along-side 3rd Evan Asmussen, whom won a World Junior Championship in 2012.  Evan is another talented product of the PCA.  In the end, wisdom prevailed as Kurt rolled to a fairly easy win in the SunLife Challenge Division.  On another note Kevin Hrab (first season entered in the PCT) who lost both of the finals in the Challenge Division on tour this season, moved up to the Competitive side and qualified for playoffs in the Dawson Creek event.

It was a game of championship victors in the Encana Challenge Division final in Dawson Creek – as Janais DeJong (GP winner, on tour) and Donald Dumont (FSJ winner, on tour) squared off in a wild final.  DeJong (2nd in Alberta at the 2014/2015 Junior Ladies Provincials and is entered in the PCA districts, starting December 5th in Falher) took a 5-ball in the second.  However, the crafty veteran with the game looking somewhat out of reach, stormed back hailing an 8-6 lead into the 7th end.  Janais was forced to one in seven, stole one in eight and stole another in the extra for her second win on tour this season.  Both teams are positioned well, to receive a spot at the Tour Championships – yet one event is still available in Peace River (NEW event) at the beginning of January, first.

Updated standings from Dawson Creek and an update with the CanWest Junior side, are to come.
